Tree Inspection and Aboriculture Consultancy

If you have trees in a situation in the land or area under your management, it is essential to enlist the help of a certified arborist to inspect the tree's health. Regular checkups on trees are essential otherwise it can put you, your property or even other people at risk. A detailed tree inspection identifies and detects possible current problems and future issues before the condition deteriorates. A tree inspection is performed by a professional arborist by conducting careful examination of the trees depending on the level of inspection. During the inspection, an arborist will evaluate a number of aspects such as the tree’s structure integrity, health and vigor, etc to determine the impact and likelihood of potential tree failure. The results from the detailed examination can tell the arborist important information about the tree and potential issues with the tree which might arise in the near future.

With the increasing incorporation of trees into the built environment across both private and public sectors, landowners shall engage professional arboriculture consultancy services.

Available services:

Visual Tree Assessment (VTA-Method) - The 'first level' visual checks external symptoms like leaf-shedding and slanted trunks

  • Basic Tree Structure Assessment - The ‘second level’ check where ground level inspection is carried out with simple hand tools.

  • Advance Tree Structure Assessment - The ‘second level' check where diagnostic tools such as a resistograph and sonic tomographs to further confirm internal defects on trees. A resistograph is used to measure the relative density of wood in trees and timber structures. Generally, decayed wood would offer less resistance when drilling into the tree's trunk. A sonic tomography is used to measure the thickness of the residual wall of trees by studying the speed of sound travels through the wood. Generally, sound travels slower through decayed wood than healthy wood.

  • Tree Survey - Provides measurements (ie: the types of trees, where they are located, how large they are, their age). It provides an overview particularly on tree health and structural issues based on survey/ information gathered during assessment.

Tree Pruning and Tree Removal

Apart from aesthetic values that trees can offer, it is also good for our mental and social well-being. A tropical country like Singapore deals a lot with varying tropical climates like heavy wind and rain such as squalls and during the north-east monsoon period. Often, it results in fallen trees and branches which may cause serious or fatal accidents, especially in an area with high human traffic. In order to improve tree safety, crown cleaning or even tree removal due to poor tree health are essential to help trees cope with unpredictable and severe weather conditions. Routine tree pruning will help trees to improve their ability to withstand harsh weather, help trees to grow to its fullest potential as well as to handle safety concerns, reducing the likelihood of life threatening incidents.

Our arborists are equipped with the knowledge and understanding of the structural behaviour of trees under varying environmental changes like rain, wind and soil. They can recommend the best guide on necessary actions for a comprehensive tree management programme such as tree removal and root growth, repair of damage, clearing of fallen trees, repair of turf, guying/ staking, mulching, top dressing to make sure it remains sturdy, robust and stable for years into the future.

Tree Transplanting

Transplanting can be tricky and highly complex, with no universal easy solution. Many landowners are often faced with the obstacle of moving a tree to a new location, especially in densely populated residential neighbourhoods and business districts. A number of factors and other measures should be taken into consideration and carefully evaluated prior to any tree transplanting operation. Besides the trees itself, the available space and soil condition of both old and new locations must be thoroughly assessed by professional arborists. As we understand trees are not engineered structures and each tree tends to react differently, our meticulous arborists closely monitor and provide post-planting care for each tree to help overcome planting shock and achieve optimal survival rate after tree transplanting.

In most circumstances, it may be necessary to prune, pollard, and reduce the crown in the early tree transplanting stage. These pre-transplanting procedures ensure smooth transplanting. Afterwhich, tree root is balled-and-burlapped or wrapped with gunny sack, wire basket, or fibre net compactly and firmly. This is to help keep the root ball in place during transport.
